About Me:
I live in Portland, Oregon USA. I am a Photographer.

When I was in college, before I chucked everything and went to art school, I met a man who was always elegantly dressed.
He was a music major and quite brilliant and he and his friends were the most beautiful men I had ever seen. (This is rare in the Pacific Northwest; some people think "grunge" was actually a conscience fashion, but no, that's just how folks dress here.) So seeing guys who wore dinner jackets with their jeans, instead of flannel, was a big deal!! I was in awe. This beautiful man told me that he had seen the most impeccable man ever, his idol, when he was in LA. And he went on to describe watching Bryan Ferry unload his car outside an LA recording studio. He spoke like he was seeing God. He described what he was wearing to the last detail. Then he told me to get this album "In Your Mind".
Mesmerized as I was by the beautiful man; I did as I was told and I have been forever grateful.
I listened to "In your Mind" inside out. It was 1977.
I had no real idea about Roxy Music, just Bryan Ferry. I bought everything after "In Your Mind".

It is a sad thing to me, that I wasn't aware of Roxy earlier. It would have been exactly what I wanted in the early seventies. Now, I listen to the first two albums now and think that these would have changed my life (!!! or at least provided a better soundtrack) had I been aware of them, but the marketing of Roxy just didn't translate well in America.
It kills me to see here, on this site, and on youtube, early Roxy performances. I must have slept the few nights they were on "The Midnight Special" in the USA. Because had I seen Bryan in the Black tux jacket my 14 year old soul would have been converted on the spot.
Long story short: I want to see Roxy/Ferry live.
I was disapppointed that there was no tour plannned to promote Dylanesque in the USA. And the last Roxy Music tour didn't come within 800 miles of me. So I will probably have to go to Europe.
I want to see Bryan, or God willing, Bryan with Roxy and I realize this means probably big travel for me. Willing and able. I am here on this site to garner any tour info I can, meet fellow revelers and get any inside info on performance dates.

Lovestruck.
Silly stupid weak in the knees
regarding Bryan Ferry. Can't be helped.

Great you have a copy on order. If it is the same book as I think it is there is a great cover on the edition I have seen of the first Roxy Music album with Kari-Ann in a different pose. My copy has a black and white publicity shot of Roxy from For Your Pleasure.

Forgot to mention there are good photos as well which I hope are included in your copy. Very early ones of Marcus Price Taylors in Newcastle where the neon sign of the shop is mentioned as a template for some of Bryan's visual ideas for Roxy. Also a interesting chapter on Andy Warhol and the Factory in New York.

Enjoy reading your copy

Kind Regards
Anthony

Hi,

Thanks for your message, great to hear from you.

The way I look at, music keeps you young and I'm still playing all my albums from the 70s much to the dismay of my 15 year old daughter who in her own words thinks "I'm sad", a phrase much used by teenagers over here.

I know how you feel about Roxy Music though, I'm on Roxyrama most days hoping for some news of the new album. I have always been interested in the history of Roxy and Bryan's background and how Roxy came into being.

At the moment I'm reading the Michael Bracewell book" Roxy, the band who invented an era",a perfect statement in my mind. The book covers the post war years in the UK and the origins of Bryan's ideas at University whilst studying art with Richard Hamilton the 50s and 60s pop artist. Its a great read because you gain an insight into the culture of the period and how all the different styles in music and fashion shaped Bryan's ideas for Roxy Music. If you can buy a copy in the states try and find one, as its one of the best books about the origins of all band members especially Eno.

Hope to speak to you soon

Kind Regards
Anthony

Hi just read the above, great to see Roxy and Bryan have such devoted fans stateside. I really hope you get to see Roxy Music live, my first concert was in 1981 (Flesh + Blood) on a cold January night in Birmingham, not exactly a nightspot then like it is today. I didn't catch on to Roxy until 1975 with Siren and I know what you mean about those early years and missing out when you listen to the first two albums. Really hope you fulfill your dream and see Roxy and Bryan in the near future.

Kind Regards
Anthony
