Now we have another tour on the horizon I was just thinking of some songs I'd like to see in the setlist. I accept there must be 6-8 of the usual setlist, but what 3 songs would you like to see included in this tour?
Here's Mine.
1: As The World Turns
2: Fingerpoppin' (just for the hell of it!)
3: Spin Me Round

Ah, but he has never toured this regularly for this period of time either, he didn't need a musical director from 84-98, he only toured once (I think!).
As for treating muscians as hired hands, this would be a mistake, you would end up with bored, sullen faces on stage with no personality and no spark to their performances,
IE: they should go and play for George Michael or Mick Hucknell!

NP: Donna Summer - I Love You, ooh I live a bit of disco in the afternoon!!

Colin G was a perfect MD for the ATGB album, and is obviously a nice unabrasive type. I think BF likes this sort of gentle people around him, even Leo Abrahams seemed quiet and pensive for a youngster!
Perhaps this is why All Along The Watch Tower never quite rocked!

NP: Berserker - Gary Numan. Still won't apologise for my tastes!

I don't doubt Colin's contribution for a minute. But his time has come and he has to go. Why I hear you say? He is very arrogant and believes that he is the architect behind Bryan's success. This is just not true - Bryan is the genius remember!! How do I know this? Many reasons, but here is one good reason. After last year's Sydney show, Colin was smoking cigarettes out the back of the Entertainment Centre for about an hour - refused to sign autographs for the fans, refused to talk to us - just mumbled a few words now and then and grinned when he felt like it. We don't like that 'attitude' down here in Australia. How rude!! He was standing next to about 12-15 fans who would have loved an autograph. But, no, that would be just too much to ask of this living legend!! And, then, who should appear? Bryan, of course. Even though it was around midnight, Bryan was more than happy to chat for a while, sign autographs, have a photo taken etc. etc. and smile too!! To sum up, Colin should get the 'boot'. I rest my case!!

Hi all

Very interesting discussion this.

Now, should Colin go because

He is too arrogant?
Has been there too long?
Blunts the whole thing?
Isn't radical enough?
Has too much influence over BF?
All of the above?

I have for long agreed with Terry that BF could have been bigger than he is a long time ago-- especially if he had cracked the states like Stewart or Bowie-- but he and Roxy didn't.

Instead they wandered off to do different things and until ATGB we all thought we would never hear from them again! Since then we have all relived the avant garde and like Phil has said you get the impression that Roxy are unfinished business!

With no disrespect to him I don't believe that David Bowie is unfinished business and Rod the Mod is now solely Rod the Cover!

Furthermore BF has always had that vulnerable streak and yes he has listened to too many people over the years.

However from ATGB on he rediscovered the love of live performence, the uniqueness of his own voice, and the appreciation out there for his own material.

Much of that rediscovery is down to Colin Good who was first and foremost a fan. He was no doubt very very good for Bryan and possibly Phil and Andy as well.

As for going forward I agree let's have more radical, more "out of left field", more jagged edges and a return of the dangerous! But is that not a call from all of us because we also rediscovered how the music and all that is Roxy Music made us feel? The " In Crowd"
A style of our own that burned deep within the soul?

Eno?-- Christ I'd pay to hear the man twiddle with an elastic band and an old tin can-- but not likely! However, let's not forget what we have been told-- they are in the studio and apparently the "egg head" is in charge of or has a big influence on treatments, so no matter who is at the keyboards what they are doing at the keyboards mey well be influenced by the postman's boy!

If Good made Ferry feel good about himself, about his music, about performing then he should stay. I am not at all for arrogance
and there are others who have the reputation for occasional arrogance-- and they should all drop it--fast!

BUT,BUT, BUT:

ALL THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS OF ROXY MUSIC ARE IN THE STUDIO, MAKING AN ALBUM--- I DON'T CARE WHO THE SESSION MEN ARE, WHO THE BACKING SINGERS ARE,ETC ETC-- THE BIG MEN ARE IN THERE AND WE SHOULD HAVE FAITH IN THEIR COLLECTIVE TALENTS RUBBING OFF ON ONE ANOTHER FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 30 YEARS!!!!!!!!

I have said before-- the mechanics, Manzanera's solo work, Ferry's writing and voice and all shoved about by Eno being Eno!! The results will be very very interesting and I hope radical enough to incorporate anyone like Colin Good!

I think we all want the same thing - some fresh material from Roxy Music sooner rather than later. Otherwise, Bryan will be too old to perform anything and we will be left with thoughts of what could have been. As the great economist, John Maynard Keynes, once wrote, "In the long run we are all dead". Hurry up Bryan!!

Is there such a thing as "a great economist?" and if so was it really him?--- maybe that is for another discussion? then again who was it who said that you could lay all the economists in the world head to toe and you still wouldn't reach a conclusion!--- bit like the wait for this album!!!

Very well thought through and put. Jim you are absolutly right.

Sorry--- and another thing while i am on my soapbox.

Many of us on here have said before that this forum has caused some of us to pause and go back to tracks, recordings performances say post 1979 or so and reappraise what we saw and heard!

Is it just my imagination that post ATGB and Frantic-- closely followed by the reunion tour--- has the music press and those who are now established producers and music makers also made the same journey?

Have they not gone back to take a trip down memory lane only to find that what is on offer not only stood the test of memory but also surpassed much of what is on offer today?

Roxy music are by no means the only band in the world and our respective tastes on here show that many appreciate and like lots of others from the established, the iconic, the once cheesy down to the downright obscure and interesting.

However I certainly get the feeling from the articles and biographies printed and published by all from Franz Ferdinand to U2 to Travis that there is greater homage to RM in the last few years than at their zenith!

Chris, if you are tuning in, you somewhere have an article from the Guardian in your archives that argues that Roxy are at least as influential as the beatles. maybe it is time to dig it out and let others remind themselves of what is said in there and by whom.

The isle of white festival a few years back featured Roxy as a support act-- immediately after KOKO-- I think Travis were the headline.

While the subsequent reviews went through all the contemporary acts who supposedly drew the crowds, and went on to highlight the up and comers, it concluded that the stars of the show were this old outfit!!

Maybe this next album will be the last-- though there is a contract for three-- but the next time is the best time--we all know!

Despite my advancing years, the obvious love that i have for the music and how it makes me feel, I still look at them, listen to them, and ask;

"How good is this?"

At their worst they are better than most-- collectively and individually-- at their best they are way out of sight!!!

Jim, Hi,
you said "ALL THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS OF ROXY MUSIC ARE IN THE STUDIO, MAKING AN ALBUM--- I DON'T CARE WHO THE SESSION MEN ARE, WHO THE BACKING SINGERS ARE,ETC ETC-- THE BIG MEN ARE IN THERE AND WE SHOULD HAVE FAITH IN THEIR COLLECTIVE TALENTS RUBBING OFF ON ONE ANOTHER FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 30 YEARS!!!!!!!!"

I wondered if this is real/true ? I am afraid it's only a rumour spreaded by fans hopefully expecting this new album ??? are they official information by BF or BF management or any RM member??? I hope that album/show soooo much !!!!!!!!!

WELL JUDGE BY READING THIS ADRIAN HE HAS GOT TOO BIG FOR HIS BOOTS AND NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT DOWN A PEG OR 2 TO REALISE THAT BRYAN EMPLOYED HIM NOT THE OTHER WAY ROUND, AND IN THAT CASE I WOULD AVOID HIM THEN IT MIGHT SINK IN THAT FANS CAN TURN AGAINST YOU IF YOU START THIS KIND OF SNOBBERY IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO HEAR FROM OTHER S WHO THIS HAS HAPPENED TO WITH MUSICIANS THAT BRYAN HAS IN HIS BAND OR WITH ANY OTHER BAND AS IT MAY. BRYAN IS THE TRUE LEGEND AT THE END OF IT ALL AND I HAVE READ HOW HE HAS BEEN WITH FANS AND IS DELIGHTED TO HAVE THEM COME UP AND GREET HIM AND AND APPREIATE THEY BEEN THERE FOR HIM AND ENJOYING WHAT COMES NATURAL HIM.
