The principal writer on the Kenny Everett Show was the comedian Barry Cryer. In his autobiography Cryer mentioned directing Ferry during this scene. Bryan apparently didn't understand what he was being asked to do until Cryer said 'just ignore him, languid'. 'Ah' said Ferry. 'Languid. The key word. I've got it'. Everett then did an interview on television in which the interviewee never answered a question.
