Jim,
I have to say that it is a little unfair to compare Brian so unfavourably to Bryan. Ferry's Roxy output easily outstrips Eno but Brian's best solo works - Before ... , Another.. - are a mile ahead of Bride... etc in terms of songs/music.

Gerry,
I am not comparing them unfavourably at all-- and didn't intend to.
I have all the early Eno works and personally prefer Taking Tiger Mountain to all others. Equally Eno's collaberation with David Byrne brought some stunning results.
Bride Stripped bare has some great Ferry tracks-- though I lament the production-- and is possibly Ferry's best solo with self penned stuff on it.
The point I was trying to make is that in the early years Ferry's song writing was superb-- really out of the top drawer--- and in that regard was disagreeing with Valerie only where she suggests that Ferry has shown lesser talent than Eno in that department.
Their small collaberation in later years shows a snippet of what might have been or what could be-- take your pick--- though I doubt they could have worked so well together for a prolonged period of time-- too different in terms of vision and their own personalities.
Eno is by far the more self assured, radical and possibly successful of the two in certain terms.
I don't disagree with you with you on the Roxy output comparison and would argue that some Ferry solo output certainly compares favourably/equally with Brian's music though certainly not all by any means-- and some of Eno's work is just truly amazing and stands to be judged by comparison with no one!
