All Time Favourite Single: Down Under by Men at Work (someone has to nominate an Australian tune and it has to be me given that I appear to be the only Australian resident on this site!)

All Time Favourite Roxy Music Single: Virginia Plain

All Time Favourite Bryan Ferry Single: Kiss and Tell

All Time Roxy Related Single (Eno/801/Andy/Phil/Paul Carrack etc:): Love is the Drug

Favourite Single from the last 12 Months: mmm, well I could say DJ Hell's collaboration with Bryan if I wanted to be really nice to Bryan (but no that would not be telling the truth). How about another Aussie - Kylie's single '2 hearts' (it is very good, true).

Favourite CURRENT/NEW Single: Not interested - simply waiting for Bryan to release his next single - no matter how long it takes!

PS: And Jim, I am very concerned about 'midges' - they do sound terrible indeed. To be honest, did not know what they were and for those that don't you can always visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midge. We have lots of other fearsome creatures in Australia, such as the dreaded funnel web spider and deadly snakes - ah ah!!. But this is not National Geographic so enough said.

Adrian,

what an enlightened and intelligent fellow you are to have looked up the ferocious Midge species!
Now the Good lord made a few mistakes when he created the heavens and the earth-- The Ostrich was not one of his (or her) better ideas for example-- and the midge is a bit difficult to explain.

The West of Scotland is a gloriously beautiful part of the earth with fine scenery, plentiful rivers, beaches on it's coast, greenery, and mountains which while spectacular are still small enough to be climbed without the benefit of an oxygen mask and a sherpa!

However the price for such a glorious home is having to put up with the Midge!!!

You will note that the Midge is a geographical phenomenon ( you don't get them in the east of Scotland--- well the scenery is not quite so nice etc, and of course they have Dundee which is not a pretty spot!---- nor indeed does the midge inhabit any part of-- eh-- England! -- Nuff said?) and is a seasonal beast!

Kenneth McKeller ( a well known traditional singer who used to write the odd script for Monty Python ) sand a song about the Midge --- which no doubt some other clever bugger can download from You Tube!

By the way Midges would vote the following as their answers to the question:

1. Vienna---- Midge Ure/Itchycoo Park-- The Faces

2. The Midgey Plain

3 The fat lady of Linberg-- Eno--- ( for the cricket noises in the background )

4. When I bit a boy---- Beyonce

5. Eat it---- Michael jackson

"you don't get them in the east of Scotland"

You certainly do Jim!

I know because they are all programmed to attack my other half's scalp no matter where he is or what time of year it is. I wonder why it is often claimed they exclusive to the West, they maybe originated there but they have existed in the east for as long as I can remember! I think they headed down to England too!!

Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that I would learn so much about "the midge" on this here site! And I am still learning more. In fact Jim, did you know that wikipedia lists the following midge species: net-winged midges, gall midges, biting midges (also known as no-see-ums or punkies in North America), phantom midges, non-biting midges (also known as muffleheads in the Great Lakes region of North America), mountain midges, meniscus midges, dung midges (i can only imagine what they must do!) and solitary midges (this last one sounds alot like our Bryan at the moment). Should I ever find myself in the west of Scotland I will be taking all the necessary precautions to prevent myself from being the next biting victim of the midge (I might be from Australia but I'm not stupid!!). Wouldn't it be grand if our Bryan were to write a song about the midge? "The sky is dark, the wind is cold, the dreaded midge is biting at my...."
